Meet John Sims. John is a veteran of the fitness industry with a career currently spanning more than 15 years as a San Diego Personal Trainer. Through constant study coupled with years of trial and error, John has amassed a wealth of training knowledge and experience, making him a highly sought after expert in the fitness industry.

John Sims is a master trainer, a published author, a proud father, and is highly regarded by his peers. John Sims brings many various influences into his training. He is belted in numerous martial arts and incorporates much of his experience into his fitness training. He continually furthers his base of knowledge by attending professional seminars, by pursuing additional professional certifications, and by staying up to date on the latest training techniques.

He is a certified Personal Trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a certified Personal Trainer through the American Council on Exercise. He also holds the Nautilus Strength Coach Certificate and has achieved the Youth Fitness Specialist Certification from the IYCA.

Angela Conklin

Angela Conklin is a San Diego native who has always had a passion for the fitness industry. She played volleyball throughout high school (University of San Diego High School) and went on to play at Mesa Community College after that. Once Angela started attending San Diego State University, she was recruited to row on the Crew team where she learned a whole new skill set when it comes to strength and conditioning. After graduating from college Angela enjoyed learning boxing as well as the Russian Kettle Bell training techniques.

When Angela joined The San Diego Boot Camp, she found yet another variation of training that was a perfect fit for her. She realized just how passionate she was about fitness and especially this kind of intense, challenging, yet incredibly fun style of training. She has since become a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and has teamed up with John Sims to grow and expand The San Diego Boot Camp.

Megan Denys

Megan Denys is the newest member of The San Diego Boot Camp team. Megan moved to San Diego in 2006, to pursue her education. Megan has always enjoyed fitness and being active so she enrolled at Miramar College and decided to work toward a degree in Health and Physical Education. During her time at Miramar College she discovered the Fitness Specialist Program and truly discovered her passion for fitness. She has since then made it her goal to empower and inspire others to become healthy and active. Megan strives to continually challenge herself and others around her to keep pushing it to the next level. Megan has run a marathon as well as participated in many different mud runs. Megan’s other interests include spending time with her family, yoga, cooking, cycling, her dogs and being active.
Megan is certified in the following: as a TRX coach, in the American Council on Exercise as well as a Yoga Sculpt Instructor.

Jose Rogers

Jose Rogers has been studying Martial Arts for 34 years. His studies started with boxing. He then went on to Korean Karate taught by Master Jimmy Brown, a New York City Police Instructor, then to Wing Chun Gung Fu taught by Master Augustine Fong. Wing Chun Gung Fu is a very effective Chinese boxing style using up close hand techniques to block and counter your opponent’s attacks.

He learned Japanese Daito Ryu Aiki Ju Jitsu from Master John Denora, which is the part of joint locks and using a person’s own energy to throw them. He studied weapons in the Philippines-style of Escrima, called Siete Partes Escrima where knife and stick are the primary weapons of choice, and where everything you touch becomes a weapon.

Next, he studied Muay Thai under two different instructors, Master I-Phong and Master Boungnaphhonh Makthepharaks, know as Kru-Mark. Both taught him the art of eight limbs, which is Cambodian, Laotian and the Thai-style of boxing, using the shins and elbow as primary weapons. He was a full contact fighter during his learning years, fighting with both weapons and empty hand until his retirement in 2000. He now teaches each art separately or mixed together for a very effective self-defense system.
